5-string bass pickups go vintage with the Area J™ 5. Like the original Area J™, the Area J™ 5 was designed for warmth, sustain, and a clean, singing tone. The low-pull magnetic field allows the strings to ring clearly and enhances the sound of the low "B" string. And like all DiMarzio® bass pickups, the Area J™ 5 cancels hum. With medium output and a very balanced tone, the Area J™ 5 works equally well with passive and active electronics.
Recommended For Neck and bridge positions. Important Note: The cover dimensions of the Area J™ 5 are not the same as 5-string Fender Jazz Bass®. The Area J™ 5 therefore cannot be installed as direct replacements on these basses without modification.
The Area J™ 5 is not a high-output pickup, but it has a lot of headroom in terms of dynamic range. It can also be custom-tuned with different control values. 250K controls produce a very round, classic J sound, while 500K controls introduce more attack and treble response.
